(Enjoy the can of worms, Blue)
I feel my mom got the short end of many sticks. She followed her two daughters to the states 18 years ago to avoid growing old away from her family, only to have them move back to the old country 3 years ago. She never stood in the way of our life choices, and I have nothing but respect for that. Mostly, I feel sad that there’s nothing I can do to change her situation.
The only conversation I had with my dad since I got married in 08 was about 2 years later and went something like this.
Me: So, I got to talk to [dad’s girlfriend’s college-aged son] at the bat mitsvah. Sounds like he wants to major in comp sci.
Him: Pfft. Whatever. Kid’s even a bigger space cadet than you are.
At the time, I was pissed off that he was being a judgemental dick to a kid he was sharing a household with, and decided I didn’t really want to deal with him again. The fact that this was insulting towards me as well didn’t even register until the Mrs pointed it out when I relayed this story to her a couple of weeks later.
